Deniz Gür is a Vienna-based Turkish/American classical pianist and a University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna alumni.
Starting from the Viennese classics, she often tries to highlight a wide variety of repertoire from all over the world in her concerts, frequently including the Turkish Republic-era classical music repertoire, thus contemporary composers, among many others. She is currently working on an album project in which she aims to bring out and introduce music by significant female composers of Türkiye.
She has also been a part of several concert series designed to introduce classical music pieces and composers of many diverse nationalities that are either forgotten or relatively unknown. Gür believes in the importance of highlighting cultural diversity in music by exploring all different aspects and forms of it from all over the world. She has also worked with many other musicians ranging from various instrumentalists to singers, especially in duo and trio formats, which have helped her to extend her chamber music repertoire broadly.
She is a laureate in numerous national and international piano competitions. She won the 3rd prize and the Best Turkish Piece Interpreter Award at the Pera International Piano Competition, and the 3rd prize along with the Audience Award at the A. A. Saygun International Piano Competition.
Another one of her awards was at the National Piano Competition in Ankara, where she won the 2nd prize, as well as the Verda Erman Special Award, which was awarded in memoriam of the legendary pianist, and also at the International Princess Lalla Meryem Piano Competition in Rabat, Morocco, where she won the first prize for her performances.
Deniz Gür's musical style was shaped strongly by highly influential and prominent pianists and professors.
She started her piano studies at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory with Prof. Öznur Orbay, where she graduated with high honors degree. She has worked with Prof. Roland Batik, thus took private lessons from Prof. Inci Altinok-Hæusler in Vienna before being accepted to the piano performance department of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, one of the oldest and most renowned music universities in the world.
Gür finished her bachelor/master and postgraduate studies under the guidance and strong creative influence of Prof. Jan Jiracek von Arnim and Prof. Jasminca Stancul-Cernko at the MDW.
Robert Levin, Boris Berman, Jean-Bernard Pommier, Aleksandar Madžar, İdil Biret, Ferhan and Ferzan Önder, Arnulf von Arnim, Giselle Brodsky, Mischa Dacic, Gülsin Onay, and many others were also among the distinguished pianists, from whom she received essential advice and musical direction from.
She has played numerous solo, chamber music, orchestra, and contemporary music concerts in countries such as Turkey, Austria, France, England, Spain, Morocco, and Slovakia, including at significantly important venues such as the Wiener Musikverein and St. Martin in the Fields in London.
Throughout her studies and career, she has been generously supported by different music foundations, including the Joseph Windisch Stiftung in Austria, the Eczacıbaşı Foundation in Turkey, and Carl Bechstein Stiftung in Germany.
